A nursery and building company have been working together to help more disabled people get involved in sporting activities.

Nine schools and community groups in Hertfordshire will see activity levels set to be on the rise in 2016 with the help of some sports equipment from DEMAND Design and Manufacture for Disability.

Bushey-based company Heronslea and Boys and Girls Nursery, in Stanmore offered their sponsorship of this prokect ahead of DEMAND’s 35 anniversary fundraising gala.

 Jason Rishover, CEO of Heronslea, said: “Supporting good causes and sponsoring local events and organisations is an important part of our business and ongoing commitment to the local community.

“We are delighted to assist in the sponsorship of this much needed new sports equipment.”

The kit contains everything needed to get started with the sport of Boccia, a version of bowls that can be played using a ramp if a play isn’t able to throw the ball.

Denise, fundraising manager at DEMAND, said: “We’re amazed at the support from Heronslea, Boys & Girls Nursery and our generous gala guests which means so many more local people will have access to inclusive sports.

The schools and clubs who received sports kits didn’t have the funding available to buy one so it’s a great opportunity for these individuals to learn new sports they can play with their peers.

“It was a great experience delivering the kits around the county – everyone was so keen to get playing.”

The Active People Survey found that 70 per cent of them would like to take part in sports but only 20 per cent do.
